Step 1: Prep the Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Scrub potatoes well and pat them completely dry.
- Pierce each potato a few times with a fork to let steam escape.
Step 2: Season and Bake
- Rub each potato with olive oil or butter.
- Sprinkle all sides with coarse salt.
- Place directly on the oven rack (or on a baking sheet with a wire rack).
- Bake for 45–60 minutes, or until skins are crisp and a fork easily pierces the center.
Step 3: Serve
- Let cool slightly. Slice open lengthwise.
- Fluff the inside with a fork and add your favorite toppings.
