It’s hearty, creamy, and packed with sausage flavor — then topped with golden, fluffy biscuits that bake right on top. It’s the ultimate Southern-inspired casserole-meets-skillet pie!

Ingredients

For the Sausage Gravy

  • 1 lb ground breakfast sausage (mild or spicy)

  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

  • 2½ cups whole milk

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp black pepper (or more to taste)

  • Salt to taste

  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

For the Biscuit Topping

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 Tbsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 6 Tbsp cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk (plus more for brushing)
