Dr Pepper Ribs – Sweet, smoky and totally unforgettable

 Ingredients

For the Ribs & Dry Rub

  • 1 rack (about 2½ ‑ 3 lbs) baby back pork ribs

  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 Tbsp paprika (smoked or sweet)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

For the Cooking Liquid & Glaze

  • 12 oz (1 can) Dr Pepper soft drink

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite)

  • 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar

  • Optional: 1 tsp liquid smoke (if you want a smoky flavor)

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Ribs

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 °F (150 °C) if using the oven method. For slow cooker method, set to low.

  2. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs (this helps make them tender).

  3. Mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and cayenne in a small bowl. Rub this dry mix evenly all over both sides of the ribs.
